BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EagleBank Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ronald D. Paul was named a 2010 Washingtonian of the Year by the Washingtonian magazine in its January 2011 issue.

For the past 39 years, the Washingtonian has honored men and women who give their time and talent to make the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area a better place. Paul is among 11 local leaders honored, including U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, president of Northern Virginia Community College Robert Templin and WTOP's vice president of news and programming Jim Farley.

The article highlights some of Paul's commitments to our community. Over the past 25 years, Paul has raised more than $3 million for kidney research and has worked to enhance access to dialysis and other therapies for kidney disease victims. In 2003, Paul started the EagleBank Foundation golf classic, which has raised more than $900,000 for local hospitals helping cancer patients. Paul states that he lives by Winston Churchill's words, "You make a living by what you earn. You make a life by what you give."

Paul is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Bancorp, Inc. and EagleBank, a community bank established in 1998 in Bethesda, Maryland, and has been involved in community banking for over 23 years. Paul is very active in various charitable organizations, including serving as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation from 1996 to 1997, and its Chairman from 2002 to 2003. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Maryland Alumni Association; and a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation; and a member of the Executive Committee of the Federal City Council, a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the improvement of the Nation's Capital. Paul is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Comptroller of Maryland Business Council. In November 2009, Mr. Paul was appointed to the Montgomery County Economic Advisory Council by Isiah Leggett, County Executive for Montgomery County, Maryland. He was also appointed to the Montgomery Business Development Corporation by the Montgomery County Council in June 2010.

"We are proud that Ron has been recognized as a Washingtonian of the Year, a very prestigious honor," said Robert P. Pincus, Vice Chairman of EagleBank and a 1998 Washingtonian of the Year.
