    >>> the major winter storm that's had the equipment out and rolling and plowing all day in the northeast as that same storm that paralyzed the south moved north along the coast overnight. meteorologist jim cantore of the weather channel is in revere, mass just north of boston . jim, good evening.

    >> reporter: good evening, brian. just one spot, 70% of the lower 48 that is covered by snow and/or ice. let's start with this latest wallop in new york. 7 inches at laguardia, 9 inches in central park . it was all done by this morning, but more than 1,000 flights in the new york city airports were canceled by time all was said and done. 30 inches in spots, and a record snow in hartford, connecticut. heavy, wet snow in eastern massachusetts knocked out power to more than 100,000 customers. the cleanup continues tonight and through tomorrow as this storm begins to pull away. back to you.
