  • Image: Depp home

With the presentation of the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards just around the corner, we did a roundup of the homes of actors and actresses who not only kept us entertained in 2010, but whose talents are being recognized in one of the most prestigious award shows in the movie-making industry. The winners will be announced on Sunday from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Until then, take a look at our list of homes of nominees who are hoping to have a new golden accessory to add to their mantelpiece.

  • Natalie Portman

    Image: Portman home

Best Actress nominee (drama) for “Black Swan.”

After opening at the Venice Film Festival, the psycho-drama, “Black Swan,” quickly gained a reputation as one of the best films of 2010. Natalie Portman’s lead performance was likewise acclaimed as the best of her career. Both accolades were confirmed with four nominations for the Swan Lake-themed film, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress.

Now that Portman’s rigorous eight-hour-a-day ballet training schedule has ended, she is ready for the next chapter of her life as a wife and mother. People reports that the 29-year old nominee is not only engaged to “Black Swan” choreographer, Benjamin Millepied, but she is also pregnant! Luckily, Portman’s Los Angeles-area home (pictured) is more than equipped for starting a family.

Portman purchased her “rustic castle-like” property in April 2009 for $3.25 million — $51,000 above the asking price. The 1930s-era estate sits on 18,000 square feet of landscaped grounds and features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, gallery ceilings, wood floors, a private courtyard, swimming pool, and two separate guest houses. Previous owners include Dermont Mulroney and recently deceased sax player LeRoi Moore from the Dave Matthews Band.

  • Mark Wahlberg

    Image: Wahlberg home

Best Actor nominee (Drama), “The Fighter.”

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams, “The Fighter” tells the life story of pro boxer “Irish” Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and his older brother-turned-trainer, Dickie Eklund (Bale). The gutsy biographical film rocked audiences and scored six Golden Globe nominations including Best Motion Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Wahlberg’s production company, Leverage, also nabbed a nomination for their production of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

As a close friend of the real-life Mickey Ward, Wahlberg held the making of this film close to his heart and reportedly trained for over four years. It’s a good thing he has a 2,500 square foot home gym and boxing ring on his property. That’s right — Wahlberg’s Beverly Hills compound boasts an entire private workout facility bigger than an average starter home. Additionally, the 1.41-acre estate (pictured) includes an 8,932 square footMediterranean main house, a 2-story guest house, basketball court, putting green, and a lagoon-like swimming pool with a cabana, grotto, and waterfall.

Property records show that Mr. Marky Mark purchased the property for $4,950,000 in 2001 and, after pouring millions into amenities, put it on the market in 2008 for a whopping $15.9 million. While the sale of the massive property remains undetermined, we do know Wahlberg has bigger and better plans for home No. 2. According to Real Estalker, Wahlberg signed over $8,250,000 for one of the last parcels in the coveted area of Beverly Park. The 6-plus acre lot was first listed for $18.9 million in 2008. Construction has yet to begin.

  • Halle Berry

    Image: Berry home

Best Actress nominee (drama), “Frankie and Alice.”

Academy Award winner Halle Berry has earned another Golden Globe nomination for her performance as a young woman with multiple personality disorder in the film, “Frankie and Alice.” In the movie, Berry’s character struggles to maintain her true identity and not give in to her racist alter-ego. While Berry doesn’t share the same emotional struggle as her character, choosing where to hang her hat for the night is something she juggles in real-life. With an $8 million beachfront home in Malibu, Calif., a half-acre estate in Los Angeles, and a charming Old World Mediterranean home in Beverly Hills (pictured), the 39-year-old actress has multiple options to choose from.

Only one of her properties, however, has shown recent activity in the housing market. Zillow previously reported that Ms. Berry’s 2,274 square foot Beverly Hills home was listed for $5 million back in November 2009 (see listing photos here). The villa-like home features 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, private gardens, al fresco dining and seating area, a fire pit, and decadent stone spa. The property was later withdrawn from the market with no record of a sale. Perhaps this is due to the fast-paced relationship between Halle and heart-throb actor, Olivier Martinez. The 3-month-old couple met on the set of “Dark Tide” and rumor has it, Olivier moved into Berry’s Beverly Hills home after only a month of dating. They do both work in Los Angeles, after all, and flying back and forth to Martinez’s home land of Paris is just too time-consuming.

  • Angelina Joile

Best Actress nominee (comedy), “The Tourist.”

With an Academy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards under her belt, it is safe to say that Angelina Jolie is no stranger to the world of award shows. This year, the 35-year-old actress has received a Best Actress nomination for her lead role in “The Tourist,” which co-stars Johnny Depp.

Jolie lives a high-profile life both on and off the set. Not only has she become one of the best-known and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, but she is also an active humanitarian and devoted partner to actor, Brad Pitt. Perhaps one of the most-talked about couples in the world, “Brangelina” lives an overly active life between their many projects, 6 children (3 adopted, 3 biological), and a multi-property real estate portfolio that includes a 5-lot compound and a 35-bedroom French chateau.

Brangelina’s compound is located in Hollywood Hills and consists of 5 adjacent properties, the first of which is a 5,760-sq ft home that Pitt purchased in 1994 for $1.7 million (pictured). Public records show the remaining properties were purchased between 1998 and 2009. The Jolie-Pitt clan also has a 6-bedroom pad in New Orleans, LA (purchased for $3.5 million in 2007), a 5-bedroom, oceanfront home in Malibu, Calif. (purchased for $8.4 million in 2005), and a luxury condo in Manhattan. For some quality time away from the U.S. paparazzi, the celebrity family can jet-set to their massive estate in the small French village of Brignol. Pitt and Jolie’s French chateau is called “Chateau Miraval” and boasts 35 bedrooms, two gyms, indoor and outdoor pools, a banquet hall, and sits on over 1,000 acres. The Jolie-Pitts entered into a three-year, lease-to-own deal with the owners in 2008. The enormous property is said to be worth over $60 million.

  • Julianne Moore

    Image: Moore home

Best Actress nominee (Comedy), “The Kids Are All Right.”

Julianne Moore started her acting career in the soap opera realm in the late 1980s. She has since found success in various critically acclaimed films that have earned her countless nominations for Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild awards. Her performance as a lesbian partner to co-star, Annette Benning, in the comedy-drama “The Kids Are All Right” has earned her another spot in the running for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Comedy).

As it turns out, acting is not the only talent Ms. Moore has up her sleeve. The wife and mother of two also has a keen eye for home design. Moore lives in a beautiful, 1800’s-era townhouse (pictured) in Manhattan’s West Village that she masterfully and meticulously renovated into a chic, modern home. She was even able to retain some of the original 19th-century architectural style, but it was apparently something she was ready to give up. Back in August 2009, Moore’s New York townhome hit the market for $11,995,000 (listing photos here). The home was taken off the market 8 months later without any public record of a sale.

Moore purchased the 4,000 square foot home in 2003 for $3.5 million. Included in the expansive 5-floor layout is a luxurious master suite, 5 additional bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a home office, media room, and a fully landscaped garden.

  • Michelle Williams

    Image: Williams home

Best Actress nominee (Drama), “Blue Valentine.”

Dating all the way back to her lead role in the hit TV series, “Dawson’s Creek,” Michelle Williams has delivered memorable performances time and time again — the most notable being her award-winning performance in “Brokeback Mountain” and now her Golden Globe-nominated role as Cindy in “Blue Valentine.”

Co-starring Ryan Gosling, “Blue Valentine” tells the story of a young couple, shifting back and forth in time between their first meeting and their dismembering life as a married couple years later. The dramatic love story earned Gosling a Golden Globe nod for best actor as well.

During breaks between filming, Gosling and Williams actually lived together in the home used in the movie as the director’s tactic to intensify the believability of the actors’ on-screen relationship. When she’s not filming, Williams and her 5-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, stay cozy in a 4-floor house in Brooklyn, NY (pictured). Williams purchased the home with the late actor and ex-fiance, Heather Ledger, in 2005 for a reported $3.6 million. Ledger, also Matilda’s father, passed away of an accidental drug overdose in January 2008. Though Williams still struggles with the loss of Ledger, recent reports reveal she has no plans to leave her Brooklyn abode and keeps it lively by having seven other people under the roof.

  • Kevin Spacey

    Image: Spacey home

Best Actor nominee (Comedy), “Casino Jack.”

Like many of his competing colleagues on this list, Kevin Spacey, is an award-show veteran. His starring roles in such films as “The Usual Suspects,” “Pay It Forward,” and “American Beauty” have earned him one Academy Award and five Golden Globe nominations. In addition to acting, Spacey is also a director, screenwriter, and producer. Perhaps his lead role in the film, “Casino Jack,” will give him the Golden Globe that has so far eluded him. Spacey depicts the crooked career of Washington, D.C. super-lobbyist, Jack Abramoff. The rise and fall of Abramoff is a fairly recent set of events, giving Spacey a project that most of his audience remembers first-hand.

Luckily, Spacey has a plentiful amount of space to practice his lines in his 6,595 square foot Tudor-style mansion in Los Angeles, Calif. Spacey’s home (pictured) was built in 1925 and features five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a large oval swimming pool. The actor also had a 2,363 square foot two-floor penthouse in New York which he decided to part with and listed for $4.67 million in 2008. Given that he has also been running London’s Old Vic Theater since 2003, one can assume he has a crash pad across the ocean too.

  • Leonardo DiCaprio

    Image: DiCaprio home

Best Motion Picture nominee (Drama), “Inception.”

“Inception” was one of the most mind-bending movies of 2010. Directed by Christopher Nolan (“The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight”), the sci-fi storyline follows stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Ellen Page on a mission to a redeem a secret through the futuristic technology of dream invasion. Despite the fact that Mr. DiCaprio isn’t attending the Golden Globes as a nominee, the innovative film he starred in grossed over $293,000,000 and received 4 Golden Globe nominations including Best Picture (Drama), Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score.

DiCaprio made his big break and gained international recognition for his lead role in James Cameron’s “Titanic.” He has since led a success career as a part of numerous critically acclaimed films such as “Catch Me If You Can,” “The Aviator,” “Blood Diamond,” “The Departed,” and “Shutter Island.” When he just wants to relax with his supermodel girlfriend, Bar Refaeli, he has his choice of locations. DiCaprio’s Hollywood Hill’s compound (pictured) is his home base and consists of two adjacent properties — one of which he purchased for $2 million from Madonna. DiCaprio dropped another $2 million a few years later to buy the neighboring property and built a basketball court that spreads over 21,700-sq ft; the neighbors weren’t very happy about this addition.

Aside from his massive Hollywood Hills estate, DiCaprio also owns an apartment in Lower Manhattan, a Riverhouse apartment overlooking the Hudson River, and, according to Real Estalker, two more houses in Malibu, Calif. — one in Carbon Beach and the other in the celebrity-packed Malibu Colony. The movie star didn’t stop there. He also owns a private island in Belize where he plans to build an eco-friendly resort.

  • Justin Timberlake

    Image: Timberlake home

Best Motion Picture nominee (Drama), “The Social Network”

Tying “The Fighter” with six Golden Globe nominations, the docudrama “The Social Network” turned the founding of social networking website, Facebook, into a motion picture sensation. The movie, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake, is nominated in almost every category including Best Picture (Drama), Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score.

Unfortunately, Mr. Timberlake was outshined by his fellow cast mates and didn’t manage to nab a nomination. He was, however, recently on Zillow’s real estate radar when he decided to list his TriBeCa condo and move to a luxury 2,600 square foot penthouse in the SoHo district of New York. Public records show the singer-turned-actor dropped $6.56 million for a West Broadway home at the posh building, Soho Mews (above). Curbed NY reported that the three bedroom, three bathroom unit was recently asking $7.65 million. Timberlake’s Soho penthouse includes a great room, 853 square foot private wrap-around terrace, breakfast nook, and fireplace.

  • Johnny Depp

    Image: Depp home

Best Actor nominee (Comedy), “Alice In Wonderland” and “The Tourist.”

World-famous actor, Johnny Depp, not only holds the most Golden Globe nominations on this list but is also the only contender on the 2011 nomination ballot who is slated for two nominations in the same category. This year, Depp’s portrayal of the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” as well as his performance along side fellow nominee, Angelina Jolie, in “The Tourist” received critical acclaim and earned him two slots in the Best Actor category in a Comedy or Musical. Gaining such recognition for roles is nothing new for the movie star. His career is loaded with top awards and nominations, some of the most notable being for major roles in “Chocolat,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Finding Neverland,” and “Public Enemies.” Moreover, his career has grossed over $2.6 billion at U.S. box offices and over $6 billion worldwide for films that he has been featured in.

The 47-year-old actor is known for traveling the world. This, of course, is an easy feat when you own properties in Somerset, England, the South of France, and a 45-acre private island in the Bahamas. The Real Estalker reports that Depp’s England abode is a 150-year-old mansion in Somerset that he and long-time girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, purchased for $2.75 million back in 2007. His real estate portfolio also includes a 2.5-acre, West Hollywood estate. While there is no record of selling the 7,430 square foot home, Depp reportedly moved out of the castle-like house in 2004. His most recent real estate ventures include renting an amazing Hawaiian mansion during summer 2010, reportedly for $5,000 a night. Depp is also rumored (via TMZ) to have dropped $2 million on a penthouse loft at the newly renovated, Art Deco landmark, Eastern Columbia Lofts (pictured). Depp’s Los Angeles penthouse features private decks, sweeping downtown views, and an elegant rooftop swimming pool. Depp will have an array of celeb neighbors including another ‘Best Actor’ nominee, Ryan Gosling. “The Notebook” stud has been nominated for Best Actor (Drama) for his role opposite nominee, Michelle Williams, in “Blue Valentine”.
