For a second time, the trial of a former police officer accused of assaulting a handcuffed teenager during an arrest has ended in a jury deadlock.
Jurors in Los Angeles deadlocked six-to-six in the trial of Jeremy Morse. Six months earlier, his first trial also ended with the jury divided.
Prosecutors said Morse had used excessive and unnecessary force in the arrest of Donovan Jackson. It was caught on videotape by a bystander.
The judge has declared a hung jury, and ended the trial.
The video showed Morse — who is white — slamming the black teen to the hood of a police car and punching him in the face. It happened at a gas station in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood.
It's now up to prosecutors to decide whether to try the officer for a third time.
