GT Solar International Inc. (SOLR) is a global provider of polysilicon production technology, crystalline ingot growth systems and related photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing services for the solar industry. Its customers include several of the world's largest solar companies as well as companies in the chemical industry. The Company's principal products include chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactors and related equipment used to produce polysilicon, the key raw material used in silicon-based solar wafers and cells, and directional solidification systems (DSS) furnaces and related equipment used to cast multicrystalline ingots by melting and cooling polysilicon in a controlled process. These ingots are used to make PV wafers, which are, in turn, used to make solar cells. In July of 2010, SOLR acquired privately held Crystal Systems Inc., marking the Company's entry into the fast growing sapphire market.

In the report, the analyst notes:

"SOLR on Thursday said it has received an order for its sapphire crystallization furnaces from South Korean polysilicon giant OCI valued at $33.3 million ... The purchase is SOLR's first commercial sale of its sapphire crystallization furnaces in Korea, which market is of great significance for LED players.

"Also this week, SOLR announced the commercial launch of the DSS650, the newest version of its industry-leading, multicrystalline ingot growth systems for the solar PV industry. The Company said the DSS650 produces ingots greater than 600 kilograms and delivers the same high quality performance and reliability that customers expect from its multicrystalline growth furnaces."
