STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Snow continues to pummel the Northeast this week blanketing the region with heavy snow. As exhausted homeowners grab their snow shovels yet again, one energy company says,  "Don't despair. There may be a silver lining."

"Although it may be small comfort for those of us weary from the near constant snowfall, all the snow does offer one unique benefit," says Blas Pina, Director of Natural Gas for MXenergy, "It serves as insulation and can potentially lower people's heating bills."

Pina continues, "The snow on the rooftops and around the sides of the house can serve as protection from the elements, insulating the home and actually making it temporarily more efficient."

The fifth major storm of the season blanketed the Northeast United States this week setting snowfall records and shutting down schools and stranding motorists. Forecasters are calling for another storm to hit the Northeast next week.
