PITTSBURGH, Jan. 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The City of Champions and Steelers Nation are challenging Green Bay and the Cheese Heads of the World, (aka Packers fans) to determine who has the biggest fan base.

STEELERS FANS TAKE NOTE: VisitPittsburgh, the official tourism promotion agency for the Pittsburgh area, is sending this challenge out to Steelers Nation across the globe. Pittsburgh wants to win this contest. So, show your Steelers' pride and be eligible to win a prize package!

"Both cities claim to have a world-wide fan base," said Tinsy Lipchak, executive director of Tourism & Cultural Heritage for VisitPittsburgh. "Packers fans and Steelers Nation are more than just loyal to their teams. They bleed team colors, wear their jerseys proudly and follow their teams around the country every week of the NFL season. But we're confident that Steelers Nation is louder and prouder than Packers fans, and we want to earn bragging rights as the best fans in the world."

To determine which city has the biggest fan base, each destination's visitors' bureau is posting a registration form on its website. From now until midnight on the day of the Super Bowl (Feb. 6), Steelers fans can register as a member of Steelers Nation, and VisitPittsburgh will compare the number of registrations with those of Green Bay's. The city that has the most registrations WINS! So…pass this along to friends, family and co-workers!

By registering, Steelers fans will be entered to win a Steelers Prize Package, valued at $1,400. Included in the prize package are the following:

  • Two Club Level seats at Heinz Field to the Opening Game of the 2011 Steelers Season.
  • Two-night stay at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel
  • Dinner for two at Buca di Beppo at Station Square
  • Complimentary riverboat shuttle to and from Heinz Field on the Gateway Clipper Fleet
  • Two Steelers jerseys
  • Two Official Terrible Towels

To register, go to www.visitpittsburgh.com and complete the official entry form by filling out name, address, e-mail address and telephone numbers. The winner will be selected in a random drawing on Feb. 7, 2011 from all eligible entries received by VisitPittsburgh.

In addition, Pittsburgh Steelers' fans can download an "Official Certification" declaring them "Citizens of Steelers Nation." The new "Certificate of Citizenship" is available free of charge through VisitPittsburgh's website at www.visitpittsburgh.com . Click on "Steelers Central," a comprehensive resource for fans across Steelers Nation. Fans can then print their certificate and proudly display it to demonstrate that they're members of football's most popular club.
