STAMFORD, Conn., Feb. 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Many businesses dream of being more energy efficient but too often the high cost of new equipment in today's tight economy causes those dreams to die. Soon though, that dream will become much more attainable for businesses in the Northeast United States thanks to a program offered by National Grid.
Under the Small Business Efficiency Program, National Grid will pay up to 70 percent of the cost of installing energy efficient equipment for any business that uses an average of 100 kilowatts or less per month. National Grid services more than 3.4 million customers in New England and New York.

SmartWatt Energy, which serves as the program's administrator, conducts a free energy audit and prepares a list of recommended energy efficiency improvements. National Grid will then cover up to 70 percent of the cost of certain improvements, such as lighting upgrades, occupancy sensors and refrigeration improvements. The program runs through the end of the year.
