security officials say the next target of
al qaeda
terrorists could be
wall street
banks and the executives who run them. wnbc investigative reporter jonathan deist joins me with the exclusive details. what are you learning about this threat?
>>
for the last several weeks fbi and nypd officials have been briefing bank executives and security officials, concerned based on pieces of evidence that package bombs or the like could be sent directly to bank executives at major
financial institutions
. they stress there's no specific threat information or any specific assassination plot under way, but they remain concerned that based on "inspire" magazine, an english langua language
al qaeda
publication, some web postings that are out there and other intelligence information they have, that they may single out some specific individuals and we spoke with
peter king
yesterday who also voiced concern that names of banking executives may be among the information being discussed.
>>
how tight is security among these
wall street
firms anyway?
>>
it's extremely tight in and around the facilities and part of these meetings, they want these banks to step up their security for the mailrooms and any packages and deliveries they receive because remember, that
air cargo
plot back in october where, you know, bombs or explosives were hidden inside cartridges. it's that kind of thing they're worried about, piecing together the messaging that's out there on the internet and in the "inspire" magazine and other intelligence.

thank you for keeping tabs on that, jonathan. appreciate that.
