Lonely Planet is offering a series of free iPhone city guide apps for a limited time to help nationwide travelers stranded amid bad weather conditions.

The news comes on the heels of a severe winter storm slamming the majority of the United States throughout the week and consequently closing airports. Lonely Planet is offering free guide downloads for 14 cities that may be catering to stuck travelers.

The apps are available for Boston, Chicago, Fort Myers, Fla., Las Vegas, Miami, Montreal, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington D.C.

The apps – which are usually $5.99 – will be available for free until Friday (Feb. 4) at 6:00 p.m. PST.

Lonely Planet has offered a similar promotion in the past. In December, it made 13 of its European iPhone City Guides free to travelers when snow and freezing weather disrupted holiday plans.
