NEW YORK, Feb. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Wall Street Journal announced today that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour will be a featured participant at the Journal's upcoming ECO:nomics conference, which brings together leading CEOs, entrepreneurs, policymakers and industry experts who operate at the intersection of business and the environment. The fourth annual conference will be held March 2-4 in Santa Barbara, Calif., at Bacara Resort & Spa.

Frequently mentioned as a candidate for the presidency in 2012, Gov. Barbour has taken a number of steps to successfully attract clean tech business to the state of Mississippi. In a discussion titled "A GOP Approach to Environmental Activism," Gov. Barbour will discuss how, as a Republican and head of a state affected by the Gulf oil spill, he promotes measures to improve the environment while cutting spending and rolling back regulation.

ECO:nomics brings together the world's top CEOs, entrepreneurs, policymakers and industry experts to assess the risks and opportunities emerging across sectors and countries at this time of rapid change. The opening night session will focus on the rise of China as a center of clean tech innovation, featuring a discussion with Louis Chenevert of United Technologies, Mark Pinto of Applied Materials, and Zhengrong Shi of Suntech Power Holdings.

Other featured participants include: William Clay Ford, Jr., executive chairman of Ford Motor Company; Izabella Teixeira, Environment Minister of Brazil; Ellen Kullman, chair and CEO of DuPont; Andrew Liveris, chairman, president and CEO of The Dow Chemical Company.

ECO:nomics is hosted by editors of The Wall Street Journal, including Alan Murray, deputy managing editor and executive editor, online; Kimberley Strassel, editorial board member; and Jeffrey Ball, environmental news editor. Findings from the conference will be published in a worldwide special report in The Wall Street Journal and on WSJ.com.
