MENTOR, Ohio, Feb. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CardinalCommerce, the world-leading enabler of payment brands, today announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued patent number US 7,877,296 B2, which teaches a system including the extension of authenticated mcommerce to alternative communication channels, including "Text to Buy" applications among others.

The patent, entitled Method and/or System for Extending Payment System Architectures and/or Legacy Order Processing Systems to Mobile Commerce Applications via Text Messaging, was filed to protect technology including that which is designed to ensure secure transactions using authentication for wireless networks. This technology allows consumers to initiate and conduct commercial transactions for a wireless device. The patent application dates back to July 2005.

"This patent, in conjunction with Cardinal's other intellectual property, expands protections of the Company's technology for wireless applications – a market in which authentication is becoming increasingly important, as so many users of mobile phones, smartphones and other wireless devices now use these phones to make purchases, pay bills and conduct other transactions," says Michael A. Keresman, III, President and CEO of CardinalCommerce. "Cardinal is committed to enabling the parties to a transaction, including the customer and the merchant, to conduct authenticated transactions with ease and with the greatest amount of flexibility. We look forward to enabling customers and merchants to continue to safely and securely grow the mobile marketplace.
