LOS ANGELES, Feb. 17, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fresco Community Market, located at 5914 Monterey Road in the Hermon community of Los Angeles, Calif., is hosting a Grand Opening celebration of their new store on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 from 11 a.m. – noon. The 24,000 sq. ft. market offers a unique variety of grocery, deli, meat and produce items as well a commitment to help revitalize and strengthen the neighborhood.

Store owners, Jon Murga and Helena Jubany (husband and wife) who also have other businesses in the city of Los Angeles, chose to open a store that would make a profound difference in the community. Inspired by the movie, "The Soloist," Murga and Jubany have established the Fresco Community Foundation as part of their store's business plan. The non-profit Foundation gives back a percentage of Fresco Market's net earnings to support programs and services within the local community. The couple also has partnered with the Los Angeles Mission's "Urban Training Institute" and hired a dozen of the program's graduates to help the Mission end the cycle of poverty and homelessness in the city.

Months before Fresco Community Market opened its doors on Jan. 7, 2011, Murga and Jubany held a community fair in the store's parking lot. In addition to providing food, drinks and product samples, the Fresco team also surveyed attendees to better understand the wishes of the community for their store and to build support for the new business.

Fresco Community Market offers fresh meat and produce, a service deli and hot bakery, a wide variety of international foods, natural, organic and bulk items and a vast selection of wines and microbrews. As part of the store's commitment to the neighborhood, they also offer a "Community Corner" for meetings and gatherings that includes a coffee bar and free WiFi. And Fresco hasn't forgotten the local pets. There's also an outside dog watering station.

The community is invited to join Murga, Jubany and the entire Fresco Community Market team for a special ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 that will include local officials and a weekend of sampling, giveaways and more.
