ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 18, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will highlight technology and solutions applicable to the military, public health entities, and the state and local market next week at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2011 Annual Conference and Exposition.

HIMSS will be held Feb. 20-24 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Northrop Grumman will feature demonstrations in booth 5762.

"Northrop Grumman is a global leader in health information technology. Our solutions help empower organizations to better achieve their missions through more informed and effective management of their programs," said Amy King, vice president for Health IT Programs for Northrop Grumman.

On the show floor, Northrop Grumman will introduce a mobile application available to U.S. military veterans that enables secure access to health information and records from a mobile device. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-developed "Blue Button" capability allows VA patients to download their personal health information through their VA MyHealtheVet account to share with medical providers. Northrop Grumman created a complementary application, "VA-214," which gives veterans the ability to access their personal electronic health records stored in MyHealtheVet on their mobile device. Currently available on both Apple's iOS and Google's Android platform, the app allows veterans to view their personal information and medications at the touch of a button.

Northrop Grumman will also feature:

  • Its support to the nation's expanding health information technology (IT) needs through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid's (CMS) National Level Repository (NLR). Launched in January, the NLR data repository and system tracks and stores information on providers' meaningful use of electronic health records, allowing CMS to determine appropriate Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act incentive payments for Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Population Health Analytics systems that allow organizations to assess health trends and patterns of individual and community‐level disease management by layering the data they need for meaningful decision support.
  • The Comprehensive Health Information Medicaid Eligibility System (CHIMES), a Web-based enterprise architecture solution that supports health IT requirements for streamlining complex eligibility processing. CHIMES helps states meet critical reform timelines and can serve as the architectural basis for state and federal health IT solutions to meet evolving administrative needs.
