PRINCETON, N.J., March 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Now, healthy food comes in... a vending machine? Yes,  Fresh Healthy Vending has come to Central NJ and Bucks County, PA.

Michael Bloom is the local franchise owner for Fresh Healthy Vending. "I reviewed a lot of business options before I chose Fresh Healthy Vending," says Bloom.  "We recognized that the time for this business is right because people are asking for better, healthier food.  So now I get the freedom to run my own business while I  invest in my community in a way that's important."

The George School, Newton, PA was one of the first to install Fresh Healthy Vending in the area.  This preparatory school has long been committed to the development of a sustainable lifestyle.  Given their history, it's no surprise that they would step into the forefront of healthy, organic, responsible foods for their students by installing two machines.  Dan Zalenskiof the George School said, "We chose Fresh Healthy Vending because it's important to give our children the opportunity to make healthier choices."

This healthy food explosion isn't just a trend.  Childhood obesity is reaching record levels in the United States and many schools are taking action to combat it, partnering with programs like First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" initiative and the recently legislated Hunger-Free Kids Act which federally mandates nutritional standards in school foodservice and vending machines.

Jolly Backer, CEO of Fresh Healthy Vending, explained why these vending machines are so successful in schools. "We developed the product menus in our machines specifically for the target audiences in the schools that they are placed in.  We have over 300 products for the school market and all of them meet or exceed nutrition guidelines.   We also know how important it is to have these machines stocked with foods that kids like.  Taste is imperative because kids know what tastes good and will always buy their favorites."

The U.S. Air Force has been implementing its Comprehensive Airmen Fitness philosophy and, in support of this effort, four Fresh Healthy Vending machines have been installed by the military at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington County. The military community has been asking for better food and beverage choices in the vending machines on base and, in response to this demand, the Army-Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has installed two machines at the Passenger Air Terminal. Additional machines can be found at the Base Commissary and at the Adult Education Center.

One feature especially appreciated is the ability for product consumption to be tracked.  Each time a customer selects a food or drink item it's recorded and transmitted to the local Fresh Healthy Vending business owner, Michael Bloom.  Bloom says, "If an item isn't doing well I can replace it with another of the more than 400 choices available.  I want the same thing my customer wants...  to make sure people get something healthy and delicious."

The machines are stocked and maintained by Fresh Healthy Vending and most locations receive a share of the revenues from sales. This makes it easy to say yes to support healthier, tasty snack and beverage choices for kids and adults.
