BOISE, Idaho, March 3, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Syringa Networks CEO Greg Lowe announced that Computers for Kids (CFK) will be the company's community outreach beneficiary in 2011. CFK converts and refurbishes donated computers from individuals and businesses, then licenses them for distribution to students for their home use at low or no cost.
"Computers for Kids is a great fit for our company's charitable work. They reach out to many of the rural communities we serve and help kids become and remain computer savvy in a technological world," said Lowe.
"We're very excited to be working with Syringa Networks," said Molly Wingert, CFK's CEO. "With increased visibility and funds, we can recycle more computers and help more kids."
The CFK program is open to K-14 students as well as non-profits. To get a computer, students pay a $35 processing fee and write an essay on why they want the computer and how they'll use it. Scholarships are available for those students unable to pay the processing fee. "We try to get the kids to take ownership of their computer. They get a full year of tech support, and each year, they're eligible for a 'new' computer," said Wingert.
Tom Luna, Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction, said, "Access to computers in the school and classroom has become even more important in the 21st century." Luna continued, "There is also a world of educational opportunity available outside of the four walls of the traditional school room. These computers are critical to allow students to expand their learning horizons."

Each year, Syringa Networks selects a non-profit organization as a focal point for their community outreach events throughout the year. CFK outreach activities for 2011 will include Syringa Networks annual Charity Golf Tournament. This annual event will help raise money for CFK scholarships used to provide computers to students who are unable to afford the nominal processing fees.
The 2011 tournament has been scheduled for Monday, June 20, at Boise Ranch Golf Course. Both individual and corporate sponsorships are available, as well as hosting foursomes at the event.
