WASHINGTON, March 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sarah Stern, the President and Founder of the Endowment for Middle East Truth warns that today's friends in the Middle East can quickly become enemies of America, and, "Israel — our eastern outpost of Western democratic values of pluralism, democracy and the rule of law — might someday, even in the distant future, come under attack from American taxpayer-funded arsenal of weaponry, such as that owned by Egypt."

EMET sites a recent CNN.com article which outlines which countries in Northern Africa, the Mideast and the Persian Gulf have received American weaponry over the past three decades. Stern says that as a result, "Thanks to U.S. taxpayers' dollars, the Egyptian military went from a grade C-, Soviet-equipped one to a grade A + American equipped one."

Stern adds Americans need to understand that there is a pattern of weapons and armament sales that could come back to haunt our country. "Major weapons sales have also been made over the years to Iran until just before the 1979 Khomeini revolution, to Iraq under Saddam just after the Khomeini revolution, to the Talban during the Cold War against the Soviets, and more recently to the Palestinian Authority, to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, all of which are struggling with the unrest that threatens the stability of the region — not to mention the administration's planned $60 billion weapons deal to Saudi Arabia."

Sarah Stern is the founder and president of the Endowment for Middle East Truth, (EMET) which is a Pro-Israel, Pro-American think-tank and policy shop that specializes in educating policy-makers and their staffs regarding the threat radical Islam poses to Western world, and how Israel is on the frontlines in this battle. EMET is on Capitol Hill every week, working directly with staffers and members of Congress. For instance, last month the Endowment for Middle East Truth facilitated a briefing by Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a founder of Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement. Yousef grew the West Bank, and was recruited by Israeli Security.   Yousef briefed Congressional staff about the dangers of the international Muslim Brotherhood.  Sarah Stern was instrumental in getting the U.S. government to grant Yousef political asylum last year.

This week EMET is one of the sponsors of the Jerusalem Conference for International Policy that is being held in Washington, D.C.
