An Arizona woman is accused of trying to kill her pregnant friend to take her unborn baby.

Kassandra Toruga remains jailed on $500,000 bond after she was arrested on attempted murder, arson and burglary charges. A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday.

Pinal County sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney said Thursday that Toruga is not speaking with the media, and information about her attorney wasn't available.

The Arizona Republic reports the case began when Maricopa firefighters responded to a blaze Feb. 16 in the community 30 miles south of Phoenix.

Police allege Toruga set fire to the other woman's bedroom closet.

Officers say they found Toruga with two large butcher knives, scissors, diapers and baby clothes, and she admitted she planned to kill her friend and perform a cesarean section to take the baby.
