IRVINE, Calif., March 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This Saturday, Maloof Skateboarding – which produces the world's greatest skateboarding event, The Maloof Money Cup – and the Digital College Network (DCNLive.com) will host the final four Maloof U Skate Madness finalists who will go head-to-head in one last competition to find the best college skater in the country. The four finalists will be flown to Panama City Beach, Florida during Spring Break this weekend to compete for their share of the $10,000 cash and prize purse.

"We were amazed by the level of talent on college campuses across the country," said Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Skateboarding and owner of the Palms Casino Resort and the NBA's Sacramento Kings. "We are always looking for ways to promote skateboarding in every aspect, and this contest was a really exciting way to bring attention to some new talent, while giving college skaters a chance to represent their schools.  It's going to be a great weekend in Panama City.  Spring Break was the perfect time to host the final four skaters in the Maloof U Skate Madness contest.  Everyone is invited to come out to the Spinnaker Beach Club on Saturday to be a part of the action."

The final four skaters will compete in a street contest on obstacles created by California Skateparks. Skatepark of Tampa will judge the contest.  The four finalists are Jared Huss, a student at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California; Nate Principato, a student at California Art Institute – Santa Monica; Mike Piwowar, studying at Cal State University – Long Beach; and Tommy Gurrola, a student at College of the Desert, Palm Desert, California.

The contest kicked off in January with hopeful contenders uploading their best skate footage to , the student-exclusive website of the Digital College Network. DCNLive's members rated the footage and voted on their favorite skaters. The 16 skaters who earned the most votes were evaluated by a panel of pros and celebrity judges, who narrowed the field to four finalists. Those four finalists will compete in a one-day competition Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m. during Spring Break festivities at Spinnaker Beach Club in Panama City Beach, Fla., the No. 1 Spring Break destination in the country.

DCNLive will cover the event and broadcast results, including competition footage and interviews with the finalists.
