IRVING, Texas, March 17, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WebSafety, Inc. (OTCBB:WBSI), the leading provider of mobile phone and PC software solutions that are designed to protect families from distracted driving, cyber-bullying, and other technology-related social issues, is currently being featured in a television news story by WTOL television, a CBS affiliate in Toledo, Ohio. The story focuses on the current dangers to drivers from distracted driving and the CellSafety product solution being offered by AAA Northwest Ohio and WebSafety. Additionally, commercials will be aired throughout the year calling attention to this national problem.

"Exposure of the public to this problem is paramount to driver safety," stated Rowland Day, CEO of WebSafety. "It has been shown that texting while driving can be even more dangerous than driving under the influence of alcohol. This is a serious problem that is costing lives every day on American roads, and we believe that our software can effectively prevent teens and other drivers who tend to believe that they can multi-task while driving from injuring or killing themselves or other innocent drivers."

According to several studies, texting while driving can be 2-4 times more dangerous than driving while intoxicated. In fact, twice as many teens are injured while texting and driving than while drinking and driving. Seventy three percent of driving aged children admit to having texted while behind the wheel. The National Safety Council estimates that texting drivers cause approximately 200,000 crashes each year.

Using a phone's GPS system, the CellSafety smart phone application detects when a vehicle is moving at speeds above 10 mph and blocks all texting, email and web browsing (including chat, IM and Skype). With compatibility on more than 90 smart phones and on all of the major wireless carriers in the United States as well as the three wireless networks in Canada, the WebSafety mobile application is the most widely available solution to help consumers stop the dangerous and often deadly practice of texting-while-driving.

Parents, guardians and companies now have the ability to disable the use of certain smart phone features, such as text, email, chat, social networking and web browsing while a particular phone is in a moving vehicle. They also have the ability to track the position of a phone in real time and by specific physical location, receive speed alerts and monitor and/or restrict certain communications that occur in a text format.

The company has also focused on other areas of concern to parents such as cyber-bullying, sexting, cyber-stalking and other forms of online abuse. WebSafety has developed a database of over 11,000 words and phrases that can trigger an alert to parents or guardians letting them know that their child may be at risk. This protection also benefits employers who face an increase in liability from sexual harassment committed during online work activities.
