MCLEAN, Va., March 21, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a follow-on task order with a total potential value of $1.1 billion by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to operate, maintain and enhance the classified networks for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The Enterprise Networked Services Support (ENSS) task order, which allows secure information sharing among federal government agencies and first responders nationwide, is a single award under the Alliant indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. Work will be conducted over a one-year base period with six, one-year option periods.

Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector will lead the work to sustain and modernize classified enterprise information technology (IT) services for the Department of Homeland Security. ENSS will support up to 1,100 locations nationwide including the Department of Homeland Security, other federal agencies, state and local governments, and law enforcement.

The company was awarded the original task order to build and operate the department's secret classified network infrastructure in 2004.

"Our cutting-edge solution and industry-leading team will incorporate green IT best practices to benefit the department and support the federal Chief Information Officer Council's Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative through a reduced energy and data center footprint."

As part of the task order, Northrop Grumman will develop, deploy and operate a converged network and IT infrastructure that will provide classified data, voice and video services to more than 15,000 fixed and mobile users nationwide. Services will be delivered using a virtual private cloud-based model for better computing efficiency and IT security.
