BEIJING and SAN DIEGO, March 22, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CHINA CONTENT BROADCASTING NETWORK EXPO -- Entropic Communications (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, announced today that Tianjin Broadcast and TV Networks has deployed its Broadband Access Ethernet over Coax (EoC) solution. The deployment, which began in 2010, provides coverage to 1.3 million subscribers and enables Tianjin Broadcast and TV Networks to offer advanced broadband data services.

By implementing Entropic's feature-rich, cost-effective EoC solution, Tianjin Broadcast and TV Networks can offer bi-directional communication over a single coax network, which directly responds to the Chinese government's mandate for network convergence and cable plant upgrades to enable triple play services. In addition, the field-proven EoC solution will serve as a solid backbone to ensure a robust, scalable network, which is required to deliver higher bandwidth value-added services to subscribers.

Entropic's Access EoC technology, which includes the EN3011 Network Controller (NC) and EN3230 Consumer Premise Equipment (CPE) solution, is based on the MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) standard, which has already enabled high performance home networks over existing coax wiring to millions of homes throughout Asia, North America and Europe.

"The Entropic Access EoC solution is proven and has a technology roadmap to meet the cable operators' needs for advanced services over coax," said Wang ZhenHong, chairman and general manager of Jiangsu Yitong High-Tech, the company which handled the development and deployment of Entropic's solution in the Tianjin network. "We are proud to have developed and provided equipment to enable Tianjin's next generation broadcasting network. We will continue to leverage Entropic's expertise in RF systems and coax infrastructure coupled with our investment to ensure multisystem cable operators can meet the growing bandwidth and feature needs of bi-directional services demands."

"We are continuing to build our EoC momentum in China with today's large-scale deployment at Tianjin Broadcast and TV Networks," said Tom Luan, vice president and general manager, China operations, Entropic. "As Tianjin represents a leader in the cable industry, this deployment is a significant milestone for Entropic as it further established our MoCA-based silicon as a core component to cable infrastructure networks; offering low latency and high bandwidth to satisfy Tianjin's technology requirements."

About Entropic's EoC

Entropic's Broadband Access solution leverages its highly successful and field-proven silicon, based on the MoCA standard, which enables a full mesh home network to be formed using existing coax cables and splitters, and is comprised of its EN3011 Access Network Controller and the EN3230 Access Client silicon. The Broadband Access solution uses this technology for point to multipoint networks. A single Broadband Access solution provides over 250 Mbps of raw data bandwidth yielding over 100 Mbps of application throughput and was designed as a low-cost, easy-to-deploy solution using the existing coax infrastructure already found in MDUs and single family housing (SFUs).

The system is scalable with a single network controller supporting up to 63 clients, with rate control available on a per client basis. By operating above the regular CATV signals and providing frequency agility between 800 MHz and 1500 MHz, additional network controllers can be added to support even more clients to the network. In addition, delivering operator-class robustness and unmatched bandwidth over the longest reach, Entropic's Broadband Access solution is the performance benchmark for delivering high bandwidth applications such as multiple streams of high definition (HD) video, premium broadband data access tiers, IPTV, and two-way interactive applications.
