BURBANK, Calif., March 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Edgewise Media has responded to the sudden shortage of broadcast video tape by increasing investment in tape re-certification to boost supply. The recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan severely disrupted broadcast video tape and data media production at the Sony factory located in Sendai, Japan.  Edgewise Media, a pioneer in the re-certification of broadcast video tape, has made additional purchases of the latest in HDCAM-SR tape evaluation technology from RTI-Research Technology International, to increase the amount of quality tape stock available to producers and post houses.

"These evaluation machines are state of the art" said Edgewise owner David Cohen about the new RTI TAPEChek 4100DLS specifically designed to clean and evaluate SR tape. A revolutionary new LaserSCAN detector inspects the tape for physical defects and damage with virtually 100% coverage from edge to edge.  A special erase function has been developed for high coercivity HDCAM SR tapes, insuring complete erasure.

In addition to offering cleaning and evaluation of SR tape, Edgewise Media also cleans and evaluates HDCAM, Digital Betacam, Betacam Sp, and other formats.  Some new services have been created by Edgewise to meet the specific needs of their clients in this crisis to expedite the process. They include next day service and same day service.

Edgewise Media is not only the nation's largest Sony Professional Media dealer, they are pioneers in recertifying broadcast video tape.  With supplies from Sony coming to a halt, the inability of other manufacturers to currently provide the volume necessary and customers in the production community needing stock, Edgewise has drawn upon their expertise and  found a solution by recertifying broadcast tape from their clients to meet their demands.

"Production cannot stop.  At this time, this is the only viable solution." Cohen added. "We will do what is necessary to keep production and our customers on track."

Edgewise Media has been an established videotape and media supplier since 1993.
Based in Orange, California, they also have offices in Burbank, Salt Lake City, and New York City to serve the United States.  Edgewise was named one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the United States according to Inc. Magazine in 2000 while owner of the company, David Cohen, was also named the United States Young Entrepreneur the same year.
