ORLANDO, Fla., March 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kopin® Corporation (Nasdaq:KOPN) today announced Development Kits for its Golden-i® 3.5 Hands-Free Computing Headset are available to qualified customers at www.mygoldeni.com . The Golden-i 3.5 headset has been certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a significant milestone in bringing this disruptive technology to production. Delivering near perfect multi-language speech recognition with a virtual 15-inch PC display, the Golden-i headset provides immediate hands-free access to nearly any digital information in the world and the ability to remotely control most wireless devices.

"This important certification has created an entirely new FCC product category, providing tremendous opportunities for Kopin," said Kopin CEO Dr. John C.C. Fan.  "For example, we announced an agreement with Motorola Solutions last November to develop Golden-i headsets. The introduction of Golden-i 3.5 development kit to software application developers and select Motorola enterprise and public safety customers is a key milestone for this agreement."

  • The Golden-i headset is a light wearable mobile computing and communication system that provides wireless, hands-free control of up to six devices at one time (Smart Phones, PCs, Industrial Equipment, Servers and Cloud Environments), wherever there are wireless resources (e.g., Bluetooth®, WiFi and/or Cellular).
  • Golden-i Gen 3.5 Headset Development Kits are $2,500 each (plus tax and shipping) and are available for purchase at www.mygoldeni.com .
  • The Development Kit is designed for ease of use in adding speech recognition and gesture interface to industry standard and legacy software applications already running on PCs and enterprise systems.
  • Each Development Kit includes: one Golden-i Gen 3.5 Headset; a Windows® 7  application software emulation environment; Microsoft WinCE 6 application software porting platform; Nuance VoCon3200 Golden-i speech recognition platform available in more than 20 languages; online professional application development support provided by Adeneo, a Microsoft Gold Developer Partner; access to the global Golden-i users group; a second Li-ion battery and wall-plug battery charger; a user's guide; and a developers instruction manual.

Jeffrey Jacobsen, senior advisor to CEO and Golden-i program manager, Kopin Corporation: "Imagine leaving your PC behind, yet having spontaneous access everywhere you go. Imagine remote access and control of industrial machines, service and maintenance equipment or providing remote shared and collaborative instruction with digital imaging to others without travel.  Golden-i delivers instant access to digital information, on-demand Internet service and real-time streaming video to those that require their hands to do their job.  Golden-i enables wireless control of most devices and systems we come in contact with everyday. The Golden-i 3.5 Development Kit provides immediate hands-free task analysis, enterprise deployment evaluation and legacy system optimization planning prior to full production 'all-weather' headsets becoming available in 2012."

Tom Bianculli, senior director, Emerging Business, Chief Technology Office, Motorola Solutions: "Motorola Solutions and Kopin have worked closely together for the past two years to research and identify opportunities for next generation wearable computing.  Based upon customer interest and feedback from those working with early units, the new Gen 3.5 Headset Development Kit is a major leap forward in hands-free mobile enterprise computing and communications."

James Brehm, senior consultant, Mobility and the Unwired Experience, Frost & Sullivan: "Increasingly, companies are relying on field service technicians to deliver measurable value to the customer. Today's workforce requires one or both hands to perform their job, in addition to real-time access to customer records, scheduling, dispatch, service order and contracts management, service parts management and other software tools.  The Golden-i headset provides field staff with a lightweight and easy-to-use tool for accessing and managing this data in the field, while allowing field staff to keep their hands free for more important tasks."
