IRVINE, Calif., April 18, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation(Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor technology aimed at building a smart, secure, connected world, today announced it has been granted Class H & K certifications as prescribed by the MIL‑PRF‑38534 specification, defined by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Compliance with this specification certifies Microsemi's expertise in designing and manufacturing microelectronic assemblies for space and mission-critical defense programs.

"This certification places Microsemi in an elite group of manufacturers that serve the aerospace industry," said Kare Karlsen, Executive Vice President of Microsemi's HiRel Group. "Microsemi currently has several qualifications of Class K standard products already underway and targeted for launch in 2011, including: point-of-load power supplies, solid-state relays, and linear regulators. These products target new Microsemi content in applications such as missiles, aircraft, nuclear power facilities, and satellites."

The DLA is the logistics center and manager for military specifications for electronic parts and it controls a number of specifications, standards, and test methods. The top level specification is MIL-PRF-38534, which emphasizes capability and consistency of manufacturing processes and materials as well as a highly defined test flow.

Class H requirements typically form the baseline certification and the K level certification is awarded by the DLA only if the vendor has shown the capability of performing extra pre-build inspections of components used inside the part, post-build inspections, and testing in addition to meeting all of the baseline requirements of Class H. Class K requirements also address the special needs of space users.
