At least two people have been taken to hospitals after a collision between a special-needs bus and a tractor-trailer on a rural road on eastern Long Island.
A dispatcher for the Maryhaven special-needs says 6 clients were on the minibus along with 2 staffers. Two passengers were taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on Sound Avenue in the town of Riverhead. Police Chief David Hegermiller says the bus and tractor-trailer may have sideswiped each other.
He says a helicopter was evacuating some victims. The condition of the tractor-trailer driver was not immediately known. The truck was flipped on its side at the crash scene.
