ERIE, Pa., April 21, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Eriez®, world authority in advanced technology for magnetic, vibratory and inspection applications, announces the availability of the Eriez Pull Test Kit. When used properly, Eriez' Pull Test Kit will help users monitor the efficiency of their magnetic separator by measuring the holding force of a magnet.

The Eriez Pull Test Kit includes a graduated scale, (4) non-magnetic spacers- 1/4, two - 1/2 and 1 inch thick (6, two - 12 and 25 mm), a 1/8 x 1 x 3 inch (3 x 25 x 76 mm) steel plate, a 1/8 x 1 x 3 inch (3 x 25 x 76 mm) steel plate with attached radius non-magnetic spacer, a 1 inch diameter steel ball, and 1/4 inch (6 mm) diameter steel ball, all housed in a hard plastic case. The kit is designed for use on a variety of magnetic separators. Certain accessories may not apply to some users' separators.

Bill Dudenhoefer, Manager—Separation Products, explains, "While we use the Pull Test Kit as a quality assurance device, we list typical Pull Test values to guide users in their inspection. Pull Test values can and will vary among separators due to a variety of magnet options." He adds, "We suggest utilizing the kit not to verify the values listed, but to monitor the separator's performance over time."

Eriez recommends that users record the Pull Test results from periodic inspections to evaluate any changes in magnet performance. "If measurements begin to decline, contact your local representative to discuss factors that affect magnet performance," says Dudenhoefer.

Dudenhoefer explains, "There are several factors that affect magnet performance and may alter the results of a Pull Test. They include-- but are not limited to-- high application or cleaning temperature, direct electrical current, moisture and physical abuse." He adds, "We expect, under normal operating conditions, magnet circuits to retain their strength indefinitely."

Dudenhoefer notes that Eriez offers free, on-site pull test services. "If you need to check your magnet strength, you can also contact Eriez to arrange for one of our magnet specialists to visit your facility and pull test your permanent magnets free of charge!" Some exceptions do apply, so please contact a local Eriez representative for more details.
