One deputy was killed and a second was wounded Saturday by a gunman hiding in a shed, the Johnson County, Texas, sheriff said Saturday.

The gunman was killed by deputies, Sheriff Bob Alford said in a news release.

The Sheriff's office identified the slain deputy as three-year veteran Clifton Taylor, reported NBC TV station KXAS.

Authorities released few details about the Saturday afternoon shootout near Venus, a town of less than 2,000 people about 30 miles south of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The sheriff's office said officers were responding to an anonymous call about a disturbance involving weapons in the 2200 block of Eagle Court at around 3 p.m., KXAS said.

Three deputies responded, when they arrived they went to a shed on the property. The sheriff's office said that's when a man inside the shed opened fire, killing one deputy and injuring another.

Alford said no further information would be released as the investigation continues. No other names were immediately released pending notification of next of kin.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
