"Charles has been instrumental in building and shaping First Tennessee," said Bryan Jordan, First Horizon CEO. "He has a great passion for the people of this state, our customers and the employees of our company. He's a great competitor, and there's no doubt that he's one of the reasons we have the largest deposit share in our markets and one of the country's highest bank customer retention rates."

Burkett, 60, started with First Tennessee as a part-time employee in 1970 while he was still in college at then-Memphis State University. He joined the company full-time in 1973 as a management trainee after his college graduation. He has held leadership roles in personal banking, retail credit, installment and credit card loan administration, small business lending, trust, investments, insurance and financial planning. He was the company's president in Cookeville before returning to Memphis in 2001 to lead the company's banking team.

Burkett has also been very active in the Memphis community, serving in leadership roles with the American Heart Association, the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, the Mid-South Minority Business Council and the University of Memphis Board of Visitors.

As Burkett retires and as part of an ongoing effort to improve productivity and efficiency, First Tennessee will streamline management by consolidating five major markets in the state into three. The bank is also restructuring its business lines as the company works to improve its efficiency ratio and position itself for long-term success.
