NAAMA's 25th International Medical Convention to be Held June 25 - 30, 2011, in Amman, Jordan

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., April 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) announced today that its 25th International Medical Convention will take place in Amman, Jordan, June 25 through June 30, 2011. The theme of the convention is "Evidence-Based Practices in Medical Science and their Healthcare Outcomes."

The convention is expected to attract some 400 attendees from the United States and the Middle East. It is open to NAAMA members and non-members, physicians as well as other healthcare professionals. Registration for local Jordanian physicians, medical students and residents is free. Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) units are granted to attendees of the scientific program.  

Collaborating with NAAMA as members of the Local Scientific and Organizing Committee to stage the convention are the deans of the Jordanian medical schools (University of Jordan, Hashemite University, Muta University and Jordan University for Science and Technology [JUST] and the dental schools at the University of Jordan and JUST in addition to the Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, National Diabetic Center, King Hussein Cancer Center and the Jordan Society of American Medical Graduates.

His Excellency Dr. Yassin Al-Husban, Jordanian Minister of Health, will keynote the convention.   He will kick off a week-long series of scientific presentations and updates on such critical healthcare topics as advances in cardiology; dentistry; gynecology; immunology; infertility and reproductive medicine; internal medicine; nephrology; neurology; oncology; pain management; pulmonary medicine; sleep disorder treatment; substance abuse treatment; surgery; urology; behavioral medicine; and disparities in health care.

Mahmoud Aqel, MD, PhD, an internal medicine specialist from New Jersey, is this year's convention chair. He said, "Physicians who join us in Amman will be very pleased with the caliber of our scientific program and come away with a valuable overview of important topics on the medical scene in the U.S. and Middle East.

Additionally, there will be a symposium hosted by JUST in the city of Irbid, Jordan, on Wednesday, June 29. Following the convention, a symposium and workshops will take place in Jerusalem, July 1-3.
