The new Guinness World Records title-holder for the most fans on Facebook in 24 hours managed to get more than 1.5 million new " likes " on their profile page. That's not bad — for a chip.

Frito-Lay’s official Facebook page garnered 1,571,161 new fans between 2 p.m. CDT on April 11, 2011 and 2 p.m. CDT on April 12, 2011.

To direct new fans to their page, Frito-Lay — which produces popular snacks such as Lay's potato chips and Doritos corn chips — set up a kitchen in Times Square and live-streamed cooking demonstrations from top chefs, including Padma Lakshmi, to their Facebook page. The demonstrations were also streamed on gigantic LED billboard screens overlooking Times Square.

The company also gave players of the social network game FarmVille the chance to harvest Frito-Lay-sponsored game crops and earn virtual goods as a way to attract more attention to the potato chip company's Facebook page.

FarmVille was created by the game developer Zynga, which also developed the social network game version of Texas Hold'em Poker on Facebook — a game that holds the current GWR title for the most fans on Facebook, with 36,230,968 fans as of April 28, 2011.
