NEW YORK, May 5, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Novelist and screenwriter Lee Goldberg grew up loving the exciting "men's action adventure" paperbacks of the 70s and 80s – short, tightly-written books full of hard-boiled heroes, outrageously sexy women, wild adventure, and gleefully over-the-top plots – that were sold for a few bucks at gas stations and convenience stores. But now, those paperbacks are impossible to find and the genre was on the verge of extinction.

Until now.

THE DEAD MAN is a monthly series of exhilaratingly original "men's action adventure" novels created by Goldberg and writer/screenwriter William Rabkin that boldly resurrects the genre for a new generation and a new medium: the e-book.

The e-book platform offers the perfect medium to reinvigorate the genre…and Goldberg & Rabkin have recruited a dozen top, highly experienced action, horror, mystery and western authors to help them do it.

"We come from the TV business," says Goldberg. "What Bill and I love the most about episodic television is sitting in a room, working with other writers. So we decided to approach this book series the same way. We are eager to see what other writers, people we greatly admire and who have similar sensibilities to our own, will do with the character and the concept."

THE DEAD MAN features Matt Cahill, an ordinary guy who, after a terrible accident, recovers from a mild case of death to discover that he can now see the evil eating away at people's souls…and a supernatural world that others don't. So he wanders the country looking for answers to who he is and what he has become…while also trying to save people from unimaginable horrors.

The third book in the series, HELL IN HEAVEN, launched May 2nd and will be followed every month by new adventures. THE DEAD MAN isn't just great reading…it's an exciting, new approach to e-books that takes full advantage of the platform inventive and creative ways, reviving a lost and beloved genre for the twenty-first century.

What readers are saying about THE DEAD MAN series:

"I can't stress how much fun the DEAD MAN books have been, especially since they are both under 100 pages and can be read in no time. Let's hope the streak continues."

"I love this character because he never seems to realize quite how good he is, and watching him struggle in an effort to do the right thing makes for great entertainment…What can I say, these boys know how to write!"
