SAN DIEGO, May 6, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that its Defense Engineering Solutions (DES) Division has been awarded a new $8.9 million contract supporting the Resilient Command and Control (RC2) Project for the Information Innovation Office (I2O) Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

The objective of RC2 is the development and demonstration of technologies for command and control of command and control. Military commanders depend on a complex network of Command and Control (C2) systems to provide critical information to support decision making. RC2 will develop tools to provide a commander insight into the health and status of information systems and assist the commander in the management of C2 systems in support of mission operations. RC2 will include an adaptive re-planning capability to maximize the ability of commanders to reconfigure C2 systems in response to changes in the operational environment.

The RC2 program is divided into three areas: Area 1 is the Technology Development, Area 2 is System Engineering and Integration and Area 3 is Experimentation, Evaluation and Demonstration (EED). Kratos is the EED team lead supported by The Ranger Group and Moebius Solutions, Inc.

Under the new contract award, Kratos is to provide military utility assessments through experimentation, evaluation and demonstration of the Area 1 technologies as well as the Area 2 framework from both a technical and operational perspective. The assessments will include component-level experiments, system-level evaluations, and operational demonstrations.

"This is a new area of work for Kratos and we look forward to supporting DARPA in moving C2 of C2 capabilities forward," said Vic Wilson, Sr. Vice President of Kratos' DES Engineering & Analysis Business Unit.
