Inspectors say a central Florida Olive Garden accused of accidentally serving a 2-year-old boy sangria instead of orange juice has been warned but not fined.
Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation announced Monday that state agents plan to train employees at that Lakeland restaurant and hold inspections at other Olive Gardens. Officials acknowledged that it is illegal to serve alcohol to anyone under 21, but the agency found no criminal intent.
Orlando-based Darden Restaurants says the company takes the responsibility of serving alcohol very seriously. Olive Garden has said it pre-mixed the sangria in containers, but the drink is now made to order.
Jill VanHeest says she took her son Nikolai to the hospital after he was served the drink on March 31. He was given fluids and released several hours later.
