ORANGEBURG, N.Y., May 13, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vision-Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq:VSCI) announced today the introduction by Stryker Corporation ("Stryker") of the new line of EndoSheath Cystoscopy products at the 106th Annual American Urological Association (AUA) Meeting in Washington D.C. beginning Saturday, May14, 2011. Over 10,000 participants attend this annual meeting, the largest urological medical conference in North America.

Stryker will officially unveil the new IDEAL EYES HD Flexible Cystoscopy series at the meeting. The first product launched under Vision-Sciences' exclusive supply agreement with Stryker, the flexible cystoscopes will offer urologists state-of-the-art CCD-based video and fiberoptic systems employing the patented EndoSheath technology, a disposable barrier that ensures a sterile instrument for the patient and allows for improved practice efficiency for healthcare providers.

"Combining EndoSheath Cystoscopy with Stryker's high-performance video line will deliver an enormous benefit to today's urologists," stated Vision-Sciences' Interim CEO Warren Bielke. "We are very excited about the opportunity to have Stryker bring this pioneering technology to the next level in urology. Stryker's reputation for high quality products and the best in customer service goes hand in hand with the practice-enhancing and patient safety features of EndoSheath technology."

The unique EndoSheath technology provides a sterile, durable, protective microbial barrier between the cystoscope and patient. Not simply a cover, it is designed to combine an exceptionally strong disposable with the reusable cystoscope, allowing a high performance endoscopic instrument for the urologist, while ensuring a sterile insertion tube for every patient. Providing unparalleled practice efficiency, EndoSheath technology offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive, conventional cystoscope inventory, less exposure to toxic chemicals for healthcare staff, and simplified cleaning and disinfection routines, which are currently a major concern in the healthcare industry.

The concerns over endoscope reprocessing (cleaning) practices nationwide led the AUA and SUNA (Society of Urological Nurses and Associates) to present a definitive white paper in 2010 outlining the required cystoscope reprocessing procedures to ensure patient safety. The white paper, which highlights the difficult-to-clean nature of conventional cystoscopes, included for the first time official urology organization guidance on the use of EndoSheath technology, the only sterile, disposable option for flexible cystoscopes.
