About United States Coast Guard Auxiliary National Safe Boating Week:

To kick off National Safe Boating Week Coast Guard Auxiliary members will demonstrate the "Ready Set Inflate" program at the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square to raise awareness of the importance of wearing a lifejacket. It is recommended that everyone check out these inflatable life jackets prior to purchase as there are various types (automatic and manual) and are currently not recommended for minors, white water or turbulent water conditions. This life jacket initiative is part of an intensive safe boating effort to minimize loss of life, personal injury, property damage and environmental impact associated with the use of recreational boats.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary continues this campaign throughout the year to improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of recreational boaters; with educational boating safety classes, free vessel examinations, marine dealer visitation, Kids don't Float Displays (free loaner life jackets), Kids in Water educational programs and Marine Environmental presentations.

Across the nation there are over 32,000 members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, they are known as the Force Multiplier of the United States Coast Guard. They conduct on the water Patrols for Clear Channel, Search and Rescue and Maritime Safety. They handle on water perimeter security for: Regattas, Fireworks, Air Shows, Boat Races and Accidents. They conduct interactive training missions with Coast Guard vessels and many members work at Coast Guard Stations and on Cutters. They have an excellent Interpreter Program, Chef Program and an outstanding Auxiliary Air Unit that performs search and rescue, ice breaking missions and safety and security patrols.
