CALGARY, Alberta, June 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HeadsUp Entertainment International Inc. (Pink Sheets:HDUP) operators of the Canadian Poker Tour, Canadian Poker Player Magazine and the Canadian Poker Player Television Network today announced it will consolidate all poker operations into a separate new division. Kelly B. Kellner, President and CEO of HeadsUp Entertainment International, Inc., said the Company is in the process of recruiting a president for the new division which will also include Canadian Poker Player Magazine, the Canadian Poker Player Television Network and all affiliated licensing and sponsorship agreements.

"As the result of recent expansion, new market opportunities and potential interest from acquirers we have decided it would be in the best interests of the company and its shareholders to consolidate all poker operations into one unit," said Kellner. "We have begun to actively recruit a president for that division who not only understands the industry but shares the passion we all embrace at HeadsUp. We anticipate announcing the successful candidate for this position in the next 2 weeks."

Kellner said they are currently building a new sponsorship team to increase profitability nationally and with geo-targeted campaigns as well as an aggressive expansion in its international poker tourism operations.

"We are also looking to hire a new national tournament director, support staff and regional directors for British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec," added Kellner. "Because of recent events, specifically the indictment of several major online poker sites, our business is growing exponentially with our live poker tournament attendance up 35 percent across the board."  Management believes there is an estimated 3.5 million poker players in Canada alone and is the second largest online poker revenue generating country in the world.

Kellner said his International marketing team will have a major presence at the 2011 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, marketing upcoming events and continuing negotiations with sponsors and potential acquirers. The industry has seen a number of land based poker tournament operators being acquired, most recently the World Poker Tour having being purchased by Party Poker in 2009.
