MELVILLE, N.Y., June 6, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems, Inc., received orders valued at approximately $2.3 million for its Modular Transportable Troposcatter Systems (MTTS) from a prime U.S. defense contractor. These modular, rapidly deployable, transit case-based troposcatter systems represent a major advancement in troposcatter systems.

At the heart of the system is the industry leading Comtech Systems CS6716A digital troposcatter modem that provides the highest capacity throughput of any troposcatter modem in production. The feature rich CS6716A provides Turbo code forward error correction, ethernet baseband connectivity and variable rates from 2 Mb/s to 22 Mb/s. The communications link is further protected through Automatic Power Control and a unique Auto Coding Rate (ACR) function. In severe link conditions, ACR will reduce the transmit rate to maintain the link and will then return to the nominal transmit rate when link conditions permit. Coupled with the CS6716A modem is Comtech Systems CS4400 Frequency converter, the smallest quad diversity, digitally controlled frequency agile converter for troposcatter or line of sight microwave links.

The MTTS solution delivers high-throughput capacity to enable mission-critical surveillance, situational awareness and real-time data to remote, infrastructure-challenged locations. The MTTS solution enhances communications capabilities with seamless compatibility and interoperability with legacy-fielded troposcatter systems used currently by the U.S. military.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "This award is a testament to our industry-leading and field-proven troposcatter system technology. The MTTS represents a new industry standard for troposcatter and will play an important role delivering mission-critical bandwidth to the battlefield."
