CHANDLER, Ariz., June 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a recent webinar for Mission Critical Magazine, data center industry expert Scott Good praised Elliptical Mobile Solutions' new R.A.S.E.R. HD for being the highest density, most energy-efficient, mobile, rack level enclosure on the market today.

"EMS took a lot of things into consideration in terms of density, heat and cooling and came up with a pretty slick solution," Good said.

The R.A.S.E.R. HD is EMS' next generation Micro-Modular Data Center. The enclosure offers IT loads from 20 to 80 kW with multiple configurations while maintaining a power usage effectiveness level (PUE) of 1.1. (The current industry standard is around 2.8).

The webinar, titled "Trends in Data Center Cooling," was held in May and also featured Julius Neudorfer, CTO and founder of North American Technologies, Inc.

Good serves as director of critical facilities for gkk works. Over his 25 year career, he has developed more than one billion square feet of data center space saving corporations millions of dollars. Some of his clients include: Verizon Wireless, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, NaviSite, and The Federal Reserve Bank.

"Scott is an industry leader in the planning, design and construction of data centers," said Bill Stockwell, CEO of EMS. "We are pleased to have someone of his caliber recognize the R.A.S.E.R. HD for its innovative design and game changing capabilities."

Good said the R.A.S.E.R. HD solves many of the current challenges facing data center operators including escalating capital and operational costs, lack of space, insufficient power and cooling and most importantly, inability to adapt to changes in the market.

Over the years, there have been significant improvements in the data center industry from the hardware and compute standpoint, said Good, however, data centers and their support structures are still being built around the same design concepts.

"Densities are increasing, that's not going to go away, but innovation -- in terms of the support structure -- is not keeping up, it's still too reactionary," he said. "We continue to take that IT load and spread it over a multitude of square feet as a means to mitigate heat at the server level."

Good said companies continue to use deforestation to create larger data center infrastructures.

"I fail to see how that makes us good citizens in terms of the environment," he said.

The R.A.S.E.R. HD makes good sense, he said, in that it offers the highest density of IT in the smallest footprint and reduces heat at the chip level rather than the rack level.

He added that the technology allows data center operators to extend the life of their facility by resolving heating and cooling limitations.

In terms of new data center or high performance computing centers, the R.A.S.E.R. HD offers an extremely high density solution that can be scaled as needed.

Additional features of the R.A.S.E.R. HD include:

  • EMI shielding to protect electronic equipment from interference or disruption
  • Seismic testing to zone 4 standards (optional)
  • Greater uptime and reliability
  • Field upgradable
  • Mobile/Re-locatable
  • Redundant
  • Reduction of capital expenses by up to 75%
  • Reduction of operating and cooling costs by up to 55%
  • Reduction of data center footprint by up to75%
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
