The John Marshall Law School in Chicago offers attorneys the nation's only LLM degree in employee benefits. This outstanding program has a nearly 100 percent employment for its graduates.

CHICAGO, June 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Graduates of The John Marshall Law School completing master of laws degrees in Employee Benefits are defying expectations in today's tight job market with nearly 100 percent employment. The John Marshall Law School is unique in the United States, offering the nation's only graduate-level program in employee benefits.

"Specialization has been the key in enhancing our students' employability. Employee benefits and tax expertise are always in demand by employers in a down economy, and we offer both the LLM and a joint JD/LLM degree in employee benefits," said Kathryn Kennedy, associate dean for Advanced Studies and Research and director of the Center for Tax Law and Employee Benefits. "We are running to keep pace with the demand for these targeted skills."

Now practicing attorneys can earn the LLM online as all six required employee benefits courses are being offered through John Marshall's eCourses. Fall 2011 registration is ongoing.

With the health care overhaul and the aging of the baby boomers putting more pressure on changes in employee benefits packages, graduates are finding it is an exciting field of law to be practicing, Kennedy said. Many of the law school's LLM in employee benefits graduates are working at law firms and government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Health and Human Services. The latest statistics show 95 percent of all graduates with LLM in employee benefits degrees are employed.

"The field is so complex and ever-changing that employers need someone with a high level of expertise from day one. They're choosing our graduates—hands down," Kennedy said.

"When I've gone on job interviews . . . I've shown employers the different classes that I have taken. The variety is unique among candidates that they have interviewed," explained David Berek, a 2006 graduate in the Employee Benefits Program who is now a partner at Handler Thayer LLP.

The John Marshall Law School also offers LLM degrees in information technology and privacy law; intellectual property law; international business and trade law; real estate law; and tax law.

Qualified students also can earn a law degree while earning an MBA from Dominican University, or the master's in public administration degree from Roosevelt University.
