National and international flights have resumed in Uruguay after nearly two days of cancellations due to an ash cloud from an erupting volcano in southern Chile.

Airport officials say that the majority of the flights are leaving on time, including those traveling between the capital city of Montevideo and the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.

On Friday, Argentina's civil aviation department reopened Buenos Aires' two main airports once the cloud of ash moved away. Other smaller Argentine airports to the south and in Patagonia remained closed.

Numerous flights in Brazil and Chile also were canceled as a precaution.
