The hacktivist group Anonymous has singled out the Federal Reserve and its chairman, Ben Bernanke, as its next major target.

In a YouTube video posted Saturday (June 11), Anonymous details its newest campaign, "Operation Empire State Rebellion," with a litany of ways the Federal Reserve has failed the American people and driven the economy into the ground.

Under the direction of Bernanke, the Federal Reserve has "deliberately driven tens of millions of people into poverty," Anonymous contends, enacting policies that are "systematically looting the country to enrich one-tenth of one-percent of the population."

Specifically, Anonymous calls out the "Too Big to Fail global banks," and attempts to gather followers by declaring: "We cannot remain passive while our future is going up in flames."

Operation Empire State Rebellion was set to begin Tuesday. Most likely, the operation will take the form of denial-of-service attacks against government websites, although Anonymous' video instructs people to organize planned sit-ins at public spaces "until Bernanke steps down."

The video, titled "Control+Alt+Bernanke" (pressing Control+Alt+Delete is the command to shut down a program on a Windows system) has been viewed over 200,000 times.

This planned cyberprotest comes during a turbulent time for Anonymous members worldwide. Yesterday (June 13), Turkish police arrested 32 people suspected of taking part in Anonymous-led attacks against Turkish government websites. And on June 10, cops in Spain arrested three men suspected of taking part in Anonymous-organized attacks on Spanish government websites and the Sony PlayStation store website.
