IRVINE, Calif., June 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor technology aimed at building a smart, secure, connected world, today announced it will be demonstrating its family of Power over Ethernet (PoE) midspan products at InfoComm today through June 17 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The company will be previewing next-generation PoE midspans that are designed to support the emerging HDBaseT consumer electronic (CE) connectivity standard, which is optimized for whole-home and commercial multimedia distribution.

"HDBaseT is an emerging standard, and Microsemi is pleased to be one of the first companies to demonstrate how to leverage Power over Ethernet-based technology to efficiently deliver up to 100 watts of power, per port, to a wide variety of consumer electronics devices throughout the home," said Paul Pickle, senior vice president of Microsemi's Integrated Circuit Group. "Their backward compatibility with IEEE802.3at-2009 PoE standards and compliance to all PoE safety requirements make our next-generation products the perfect solution for our customers' high-performance needs."

Microsemi's standard PoE midspans include models designed to power network devices such as Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) and dome network cameras, access control systems, thin clients and other Ethernet end terminals that require up to 51W of power. The industry's move to the HDBaseT technology standard will enable new products leveraging Microsemi's certified PoE midspans to deliver up to 100 watts of power to devices throughout both residential and commercial spaces.

Microsemi has been actively involved in the development, testing and deployment of high-power IEEE 802.3at PoE Plus standard and four-pair powering technology, which enables PoE to support a broader range of powered devices. The company also heads the HDBaseT sub-committee that is developing HDBaseT power specifications that will broaden the applications for core PoE technology.

InfoComm attendees are invited to visit the HDBaseT Alliance booth, #2472, where Microsemi's products supporting HDBaseT technology will be showcased.
