An engine problem caused a Delta flight bound for Los Angeles to return to Atlanta shortly after taking off.

Delta Air Lines Inc. spokeswoman Chris Kelly Singley says Flight 1323, with 174 passengers aboard, landed safely early Tuesday and emergency vehicles assisted once the Boeing 757 was on the ground. She says another plane was provided and the passengers resumed their trip to Los Angeles.

She said Tuesday morning that the nature of the engine problem was not yet known.

Kelly Singley says three passengers suffered minor injuries, believed to have happened while they were going down the plane's evacuation slides. She did not know the nature of the injuries.
