LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 22, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ResCare today announced that its acquired brain injury services providers, ResCare Premier Texas and ResCare Premier Illinois, have been selected by the Veterans Administration (VA) to participate in the Assisted Living Pilot Program for Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury.

ResCare Premier has been a leading provider of programs and services to individuals with brain injury for more than 20 years, offering neuro-rehabilitation, neuro-behavioral rehabilitation, and supported living services to people with brain injury and other neurological disorders. The ResCare Premier programs offer a full spectrum of care and are designed to maximize and maintain independence.  Both ResCare Premier Texas and Illinois are accredited services with years of expertise in residential brain injury treatment.

"The opportunity to help veterans rebuild their lives after devastating injuries is a privilege," said Ralph G. Gronefeld, Jr., ResCare president and chief executive officer.  "The programs we offer address the challenges encountered by people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury.  The goal is always to help them live as independently as possible, developing new skills to compensate for the effects of the injury."

The pilot program is a multi-year study to assess the effectiveness of providing assisted living services to eligible veterans with traumatic brain injury to enhance their rehabilitation, quality of life, and community integration.  It offers eligible veterans an alternative to hospitalization or institutional care.

"The pilot program helps veterans return to civilian life through participation in rehabilitation in settings other than hospitals – a very important transitional step," said Jane Steur, senior vice president of ResCare Residential Services, which includes ResCare Premier.  "Engaging in post-acute rehabilitation in a home-like environment offers opportunities to practice skills in a real world setting and allows time to adjust to civilian life with support from the treatment team."
