Local officials are assessing the storm damage in Burnett County and residents are cleaning up after a fierce thunderstorm swept through the area that was packed with holiday campers on Friday.

The Burnett County office of emergency management estimated that 6,000 residents were still without power on Sunday afternoon. Officials say it may be a few days before power is restored to all customers.

The storm toppled trees that killed an 11-year-old girl, blew boats ashore and injured more than three dozen people. An ATV rider remained in serious condition Sunday.

Most county roads have been cleared of debris, but many ATV trails remain closed and are expected to remain so for the rest of the week. Jackson Township is working to clear debris from its roads.
