MATT LAUER, co-host: But let us begin this half-hour with the latest on the hunt for three siblings connected to a string of violent crimes in Florida and Georgia . Investigators say they have credible information that the trio could be in Colorado . NBC 's Miguel Almaguer is in Colorado Springs with details. Miguel , good morning to you.

MIGUEL ALMAGUER reporting: Matt , good morning to you. The FBI says several credible witnesses identified the trio at this camping store, the outlaws quite possibly loading up on camping supplies. It's a group of suspects who today is on the run.

Unidentified Man: Our investigation has led us to believe that this was the actual individuals that we're looking for.

ALMAGUER: Suspects and siblings. The FBI says the so-called " Dougherty Gang " may have been spotted at this outdoor store in Colorado Springs .

Man: Scary. This poses a major threat to, you know, the community that we serve and to law enforcement all over the state.

ALMAGUER: The nationwide manhunt for 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty and her brothers, 21-year-old Ryan and 26-year-old Dylan , now focused in Colorado , where the trio was apparently spotted buying camping supplies here Tuesday.

Man: They might be headed to a rural area, or to a campsite to avoid further detection from law enforcement .

ALMAGUER: Authorities say the Doughertys ' crime spree began last Tuesday with a high-speed chase in Florida . The police tried to pull the siblings over for speeding, but instead, officers say, the Doughertys pulled out a gun, firing some 20 shots.

Unidentified Police Officer: I got a flat tire. I can't go any farther.

ALMAGUER: Five hours later, authorities say the sibling suspects robbed a bank across state lines in Georgia . The bandits fired an AK-47 into the ceiling.

Mr. BRENDAN BOOKMAN: I hope all these things are not true, and I wish I could see her and them again.

ALMAGUER: Brendan Bookman says he's Lee Grace Dougherty 's fiance. He says she's a stripper. A posting on a Flickr page under Lee Grace 's name reads, loves to "shoot guys and wreck cars. I'm a redneck and proud of it."

Mr. BOOKMAN: I haven't heard from any of them. They haven't e-mailed me, texted me, called me.

ALMAGUER: With their faces plastered on billboards from Florida to Texas , authorities say the siblings have long criminal histories and are considered armed and dangerous. Investigators fear the trio may use their weapons again and won't be taken into custody without a fight. Ryan reportedly sent his mother a text message that read, "At one point we all have to die."

Mr. BOOKMAN: They will live the rest of their life in a cage. Or, you know, they'll have some other type of ending with law enforcement .

ALMAGUER: "The Dougherty Gang," outlaws on the run, a family of fugitives who may be preparing to die. With the siblings on the lam for eight days now, their mother has reportedly told her children to give themselves up. And even as they have eluded police for all that time, Matt , apparently the FBI may be closing in.

LAUER: All right. Miguel Almaguer in Colorado Springs this morning. Miguel , thank you very much .

A weeklong nationwide search for three siblings accused of crimes in Florida and Georgia has shifted to Colorado, where police and FBI officials say they believe the trio made a purchase at an outdoors store and could be headed to a campground or rural area to try to avoid capture.

Authorities have said they have received "credible information" that people matching the description of the three were spotted in Colorado. The two brothers and sister are believed to be armed and dangerous, said Dave Joly, spokesman for the FBI's Denver office.

Joly said Wednesday there was no new information on the search for 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley and 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty.

The three are accused of opening fire at a Florida officer after a high-speed chase, and of robbing a Georgia bank at gunpoint.

The possible sighting near Interstate 25 north of downtown Colorado Springs was reported around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (3:30 p.m. ET), Colorado Springs police said.

Sgt. Steven Noblitt said it hasn't been confirmed that the siblings are in the area, but the FBI said the people spotted Tuesday were in a small white Subaru Impreza with the stolen Texas license plate LCS 909. The suspects were last seen in a 2006 white Impreza.

"We don't have 100 percent identification, but it sure appears they were here with the information we have at this time," Noblitt said.

Authorities released few other details, but Joly said the people who were spotted made a cash purchase at an outdoors store, suggesting they may be trying to camp, and that park rangers have been notified of the search.

Joly didn't know what the three bought.

REI spokeswoman Libby Catalinich said the company, which has a store near the interstate, was contacted by law enforcement officials. She declined further comment, as did store employees.

A nationwide manhunt for the siblings began Aug. 2. The three are suspected of firing at least 20 shots at a Florida officer who tried to pull them over for speeding in a chase at speeds up to 100 mph.

Hours later, three people wearing masks robbed a bank in Valdosta, Ga., about 210 miles north. One robber brandished an AK-47 assault rifle while another was photographed by a security camera waving a machine pistol, the FBI said.

"We believe they pose an imminent threat to the community we serve," Joly said.
