Illinois State Police say a 28-year-old central Illinois woman trying to retrieve her dog died when she was struck by pickup truck on Illinois 29 in Rochester.

The State Journal-Register reports Emily Denzer died Friday evening at a local hospital. They say she was trying to get her dog after it got off its leash.

State police say it was dark outside and rainfall made visibility difficult. Authorities say the pickup truck driver stopped and no citations were issued.

Rochester is just outside Springfield.
