A convicted murderer shot and killed his wife's two sisters and his son before turning the gun on himself, according to a report.

Deputies were called to a house about 5 miles north of Logan at about 5:30 p.m. Monday for a possible hostage situation, according to the Hocking County Sheriff's Office. They stormed the house at about 9 p.m.

The Columbus Dispatch reported that Keith Gilkey of Hickman, Ky., confirmed that his 63-year-old brother Paul was the shooter. Keith Gilkey said Paul was stressed over caring for his terminally ill wife. Keith Gilkey said his brother killed his two sisters-in-law and his son and then killed himself.

Keith Gilkey told the newspaper that his brother "was under a lot of pressure."

Citing state records, the Dispatch reported that Paul Gilkey was convicted of murder in 1974. It added that he was released from prison in 1988.

Authorities wouldn't confirm the names of those dead. However, Keith Gilkey identified the one of victims as Paul's 38-year-old son Leroy Gilkey.

The newspaper said the wife's son from another marriage escaped. The wife, who has cancer, remained in the home and wasn't shot. Speaking to the Dispatch, Keith Gilkey identified her as Darlene, 59.

Logan is about 50 miles southeast of Columbus.

The Associated Press and staff contributed to this report.
