Ditch the Old Amp, Keep The Awesome Speakers

Still have that old set of unpowered speakers? The ones that are three feet high? A PC or iPod hasn't got the power to run them, and plugging a device into the full-sized amplifier is kludgy. So Griffin has rolled out the Twenty, which lets you use Apple's AirPlay wireless technology to send sound from a device to the speaker, without having to hook up that headphone jack adapter cable to the amp.

A big selling point is the power: 20 watts per channel. That's about optimum for bookshelf-size speakers and avoids the tinny sound that sometimes happens when you try the amplifier-hookup method.

The Twenty isn't on sale yet -- the company says later in the year -- and Griffin hasn't said how much it will cost. But if you that wanted to ditch the old amp but still had cabinet speaker love, keep an eye out for this product.
